In 1976, the now Sydney Roosters went by the Eastern Suburbs Roosters and were the first team in NRL history, and also one of the very first for Australian sports, to wear a sponsor’s name on their jersey. Although not the flashiest of seasons for the Roosters, finishing 5th in the regular season, they did manage to defeat England’s, St Helens R.F.C with 25-2 at the World Club Challenge held at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
