A team that was by all accounts failing before their first pick draw of Larry Johnson, a time that saw him winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award and being named to the NBA All-Star game (a first for the Hornets history). Then when Alonzo Mourning joined the team the following season in 1992 it would be create a successful duo that would cement their place as dominating players in NBA history despite the team’s lack of success as a whole. Johnson became the face of the Charlotte Hornets, he was their first real star and the first NBA player to make a name for himself both on and off the court and his cultural impact made the team and the basketball city what it is today, with few other players having made or left a bigger impact since!
