The Charlotte Hornets were at the peak of their popularity during the early 90’s, and Larry Johnson joined their roster as a first-round draft pick, going on to win NBA Rookie of the Year that season. During his time with the Hornets, he started in the 93’ All-Stars game (a first in Hornets history), won a gold medal in the 1994 FIBA World Championship, and made the All-NBA Second team. What should have been an incredible and long career, due to his athleticism, size, dunking defence and shooting ability, Johnson unfortunately was forced to cut his time short in the NBA due to chronic back injuries. Despite this he is still recognised as an explosive Power Forward who in 1993 held the most lucrative contract in NBA history with a 12-year, $84 million deal with the Hornets.
