This was the season that the big boy of the league, Shaquille O’Neal signed with the Los Angeles Lakers after four years with the Orlando Magic! Despite only playing 51 games due to a knee injury, Shaq still averaged 26.2 points per game, 12.5 rebounds and 2.9 blocks, was named to the All-NBA Third Team and selected for the All-Star team despite not playing. It was also the year that began the dynamic duo that would go down in history as one of the best, between the late Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Despite the Lakers getting knocked out in the second round of the playoffs, Shaq scored 46 points against the Trailblazers for the most in a Lakers playoff in 20 years and made the iconic quote of “it’s one thing to talk tough and one thing to be tough” in reference to an on-court interaction with Dennis Rodman.
